Uttarakhand State Licensing Authority swiftly responds to Supreme Court criticism by suspending manufacturing licenses for 14 Patanjali and Divya Pharmacy products, following a public apology issued by Ramdev and Balkrishna. The suspension, effective immediately, includes various medicines like Swasari Gold and Mukta Vati Extra Power, invoking Rule 159(1) of the Drugs and Cosmetic Rules 1954.
Prompted by the Supreme Court’s reproach of inaction, the Authority takes decisive action, also filing a criminal complaint against Patanjali Ayurved and its leadership under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act 1954. Expressing regret for any compliance lapses, the Authority extends an “unconditional and unqualified apology” to the Supreme Court, directing Patanjali and Divya Pharmacy to cease manufacturing the suspended products immediately.
Ramdev and Balkrishna had previously offered an apology to the Supreme Court, acknowledging the false advertising of Patanjali’s medicines. Following the court’s criticism of the size of the initial apology, they issued a larger apology in leading newspapers, addressing concerns about misleading advertisements.
