Thiruvananthapuram Mayor-Driver Clash: CCTV Bus Camera Memory Card Missing

Transport Minister KB Ganesh Kumar has called for an inquiry into the disappearance of the CCTV memory card from the KSRTC bus involved in the altercation stopped by Thiruvananthapuram Mayor Arya Rajendran. The incident, which occurred on Saturday night, saw Mayor Arya Rajendran, her husband Sachin Dev, and Balussery MLA engaged in a heated argument with KSRTC driver HL Yadhu, who was accused of making indecent gestures after their vehicle overtook the bus. Yadhu was subsequently arrested by the police on charges of reckless driving and misconduct but was later released on bail.

Amidst the ongoing investigation, the crucial CCTV footage from inside the KSRTC bus operated by driver Yadu has gone missing, potentially affecting the truth-seeking process regarding the dispute. Despite police inquiries, no video was found on the CT camera within the bus. Authorities had issued a letter to KSRTC, requesting the bus’s production to collect vital evidence in the case. Following the bus’s return from its trip to Thrissur, an inspection was carried out to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the altercation.

In an effort to gather further evidence, KSRTC authorities have provided the police with a list of passengers onboard the bus and will facilitate recording their statements. The missing CCTV footage was anticipated to be pivotal in determining the veracity of the allegations made by the Mayor regarding the bus’s speed and overtaking of vehicles.
