The National Investigation Agency (NIA) launched a significant operation on October 5, conducting searches at 22 locations across five states to apprehend individuals linked to the Pakistan-based terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). The raids are being carried out in Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, and Delhi, focusing on suspects involved in activities associated with the group.
This investigation is part of a larger terror conspiracy case related to JeM, which has raised alarms following recent bomb threats received at multiple railway stations in Rajasthan. On October 2, a letter purportedly from a JeM member warned of potential bombings at key sites and stations in cities including Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, and Jaipur, set to occur on October 30, further heightening fears regarding the group’s activities within India.
Jaish-e-Mohammed has a history of carrying out high-profile attacks, most notably the 2019 Pulwama bombing that resulted in the deaths of 46 Indian soldiers. This incident marked one of the deadliest attacks in the region since 1989 and has positioned JeM as a prominent threat in the ongoing landscape of cross-border terrorism in India.
