RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has expelled ten individuals, including doctors, house staff, and interns, following allegations of bullying, misconduct, and sexual harassment. The expelled members were reportedly close to former principal Sandip Ghosh, who is under investigation for his involvement in the rape and murder of a doctor on campus in August, as well as for financial irregularities. Accusations against the expelled individuals include intimidating students, filing false complaints, forcing juniors to purchase drugs and alcohol, and engaging in abusive behavior.
The expulsions followed findings by the Institutional Enquiry Committee, which confirmed their involvement in misconduct. Further investigations have been launched by the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) to address sexual harassment claims.
This case has drawn attention to similar issues in other medical colleges across West Bengal, where students have reported threats, extortion, and unsafe conditions. The RG Kar incident underscores the need for reforms to protect student safety and improve ethical standards in medical institutions.
