A bus owner in Mangaluru, operating a vehicle named “Israel Travels,” renamed it “Jerusalem” after facing social media criticism. The backlash arose amid heightened military tensions between Israel and Iran, with netizens urging police action against the owner for using the name “Israel.”
The bus, which serves the Moodbidri-Kinnigoli-Kateel-Mulki route, sparked controversy online, with some calling for legal action similar to cases involving pro-Palestinian messages. In response to this pressure, owner Lester Kateel voluntarily decided to change the bus’s name to “Jerusalem.”
Kateel, who has worked in Israel for over a decade, explained that the original name was inspired by his connection to the country. He expressed confusion over the objections but clarified that the police had not forced him to rename the bus.
