KC Venugopal, in an interview with Asianet News, confirmed that the District Congress Committee (DCC) had suggested K. Muraleedharan as a candidate for the Palakkad constituency. However, after discussions with Muraleedharan, the party decided on Rahul Mamkoottathil as the candidate instead. Venugopal mentioned that those who had supported Muraleedharan in writing are still actively campaigning for the party, and he indicated that the issue surrounding the leaked letter would be addressed at a later time.
Venugopal praised VD Satheesan’s performance and stated there was no need for him to alter his approach. He emphasized the significance of collective effort in restoring Congress’s power in Kerala, asserting that decisions should not be made by any single leader alone. Addressing rumors about his own ambitions for the chief minister’s position, Venugopal denied having such aspirations but questioned the negativity surrounding leaders with such goals.
He criticized the BJP for what he described as a “factory” aimed at insulting the Gandhi family and remarked on P. Jayarajan’s comments about Priyanka Gandhi, which he deemed inappropriate. Venugopal also underscored Priyanka Gandhi’s potential role in strengthening the INDIA alliance within Parliament. Additionally, he accused the CPM of shielding Divya in the ADM death case and called for a central government investigation into alleged benami transactions related to petrol pump allocations.
