Delhi Minister Gahlot quits AAP, cites ‘awkward’ controversies in letter to Kejriwal

Delhi Minister and AAP leader Kailash Gahlot announced his resignation from the party on Sunday, citing significant challenges facing the Aam Aadmi Party. In a letter to AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, Gahlot expressed discontent with the party’s direction and its struggle to uphold unity and core principles. Highlighting controversies such as the “Sheeshmahal” issue, he noted these incidents have eroded public trust in AAP’s commitment to being a party for the common man. Gahlot also criticized the ongoing conflict between the Delhi government and the Centre, arguing that these disputes hinder real progress for the city.

In his resignation letter, Gahlot emphasized that he entered politics to serve the people of Delhi but felt compelled to leave AAP due to its inability to focus on governance over political confrontations. He remarked that the continuous tussle with the Centre has left little room for meaningful development, making his decision to step away unavoidable. Gahlot concluded by thanking his colleagues and wishing Kejriwal the best for the future while reiterating his dedication to serving the people of Delhi.

Following his resignation, the BJP praised Gahlot for his decision, describing it as a bold and principled move. BJP Delhi President Virendra Sachdeva commended Gahlot for exposing what he called Kejriwal’s “lootera gang” and lauded his courage in stepping away from the party. The BJP’s response underscored their criticism of AAP’s governance and sought to highlight cracks within the party.
