Prime Minister Narendra Modi has commenced a five-day visit to Nigeria, Brazil, and Guyana, focusing on strengthening bilateral ties and participating in key international engagements. In Nigeria, PM Modi will meet President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Indian community, marking his first visit to the West African nation. Highlighting shared values of democracy and pluralism, he emphasized the opportunity to deepen the Strategic Partnership with Nigeria during this visit.
The second leg of the tour takes PM Modi to Brazil, where he will attend the 19th G20 Summit as a Troika member. He noted India’s successful G20 Presidency last year, which prioritized the Global South, and expressed enthusiasm for continuing discussions under Brazil’s leadership with the vision of “One Earth, One Family, One Future.” Bilateral meetings with other world leaders are also planned on the sidelines of the Summit.
PM Modi’s final stop is Guyana, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in over five decades. Invited by President Mohamed Irfaan Ali, the visit will focus on enhancing the unique relationship between the two nations, grounded in shared heritage and culture. He will address Guyana’s Parliament and pay tribute to the Indian diaspora, which dates back 185 years. Additionally, he will participate in the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit, aimed at renewing historical ties and exploring new areas of cooperation with Caribbean partner nations.
