
A 4.0 magnitude earthquake struck Delhi-NCR early Monday morning (Feb 17) at a depth of 5 km, as reported by the National Center for Seismology (NCS). The tremors, recorded at 5:36 AM, caused panic among residents, prompting many to rush outdoors. The NCS confirmed the epicenter was 9 km east of New Delhi. At New Delhi railway station, a vendor named Anish described the scene, saying, “Everything was shaking… customers started screaming.”
Following the tremors, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to remain calm and adhere to safety measures, cautioning against potential aftershocks. In a message on X, he reassured the public that authorities were closely monitoring the situation and advised people to stay alert and follow necessary precautions.
