Centre warns of potential aftershocks following Delhi-NCR earthquake

The Central government has issued a warning for possible aftershocks in Delhi and nearby areas, following an earthquake that struck the region on Monday morning. Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister for Earth Sciences, advised residents to stay calm and be prepared for any aftershocks. He assured the public that authorities and experts are closely monitoring the situation and providing regular updates via various channels.

The earthquake, which had a magnitude of 4.0 on the Richter scale, hit Delhi-NCR at around 5:36 AM. The tremors, originating 9 km east of New Delhi at a depth of 5 km, caused panic among residents who rushed out of their homes. Although the earthquake’s magnitude was relatively low, its impact was amplified due to the epicenter being located within the city.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also urged residents to stay calm and follow safety precautions, acknowledging the tremors felt in Delhi and surrounding areas. He emphasized the need to stay alert for possible aftershocks, with authorities continuing to monitor the situation closely.
