CRPF, Delhi Police deployed at New Delhi railway station after fatal stampede

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Delhi Police were deployed on Monday at New Delhi Railway Station to manage crowd control following a deadly stampede. Senior CRPF officers conducted inspections at the station, and the force is working alongside Delhi Police to ensure additional support and prevent further incidents.

The stampede, which resulted in 18 deaths and multiple injuries, was reportedly triggered by confusion over train announcements. According to Delhi Police, the chaos ensued when an announcement was made about the arrival of the Prayagraj Special at Platform 16 while the Prayagraj Express was already stationed at Platform 14. This mix-up caused panic among passengers, leading to the fatal rush.

In response, BJP MP Dinesh Sharma expressed sorrow over the incident, urging opposition leaders to refrain from politicizing the tragedy. He criticized attempts to link the stampede to political narratives and emphasized unity in supporting the affected families. Meanwhile, Indian Railways announced compensation for victims: ?10 lakh for families of the deceased, ?2.5 lakh for those seriously injured, and ?1 lakh for minor injuries.
