Another earthquake hits Myanmar

Mandalay: Another earthquake struck Myanmar on Sunday.  The moderate intensity earthquake measuring 5.1 magnitude on the Richter Scale  struck near Mandalay. Mandalay is Myanmar’s second-largest city.

More than 1600 people lost their lives and  left more than 3400 went missing in the country as a powerful earthquake measuring 7.7-magnitude occurred on Friday. This principal earthquake in Myanmar also sent tremors to Thailand’s capital city Bangkok, causing sky scrappers to tumble. At least 17 people were killed in Bangkok, and more than 83 people got trapped in the rubble, stated reports

Following the devastating earthquake, both Myanmar and Thailand had declared a state of emergency in the respective countries.

The United Nations has allocated $5 million for immediate relief efforts. China has sent a 37-member team equipped with earthquake detectors and drones, while Russia has dispatched two planes carrying 120 rescuers and supplies. India, France, and the European Union have also extended their support. South Korea pledged $2 million in humanitarian aid, and New Zealand committed assistance through the International Red Cross. Myanmar’s military leader Min Aung Hlaing has appealed for help from all nations, with blood donations in particularly high demand in the quake-hit areas.
