Two motorists were killed and six others injured in four separate traffic accidents that took place in the last three days in Dubai.
According to Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, director of traffic department, speeding and crossing the road from non-designated areas led to the accidents.
The first accident that involved three cars was reported at 1.22am on Friday. A speeding car rammed into another on Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road, which then deviated and crashed into a third car. Such was the impact of the accident that the first car came to rest in the middle of the road.
The two occupants of the first car died on the spot, while the other motorists involved in the accident sustained moderate injuries.
The second accident was reported on Friday at 10.48pm. A car ran over a pedestrian, who was crossing the Oman Road from a non-designated area. He sustained severe injuries and is recuperating at a city hospital.
The third accident was reported at 3.40am on Sunday when a man was run over as he was crossing the road from a non-designated area. The pedestrian sustained serious injuries, said the police.
A 10-car crash on Al Khail Road left two people injured on Sunday evening. Their condition is said to be stable. The crash caused a heavy traffic jam in the area.
Brig Al Mazroui said despite the repeated warnings and awareness campaigns organised by the police, “some people continue committing risky violations”.
