The 11-year-old boy who was found dead on the rooftop of an Abu Dhabi building was sexually abused and suffocated to death, police investigations have revealed.
The killer, a Pakistani national, has been arrested, the Director General of Abu Dhabi Police, Major General Maktoum Al Sharifi, has confirmed.
“Police investigations have revealed that the cause of the boy’s death was sexual assault and suffocation,” Major General Al Sharif was quoted on Abu Dhabi Police’s Instagram post today. Police said the man has confessed to the heinous crime.
Al Sharifi also praised the efforts of the Abu Dhabi police’s Criminal Investigations Department in finding and apprehending the Pakistani national who carried out the murder.
The boy identified as Azan Majid went missing on June 1, after he went to a nearby mosque to pray, according to his relatives. His body was found the next day on the rooftop his building on the Muroor Road where he was staying with his father.
Azan’s father Majid, a Pakistani national, is inconsolable after the loss. Friends and relatives offer a pillar of support to Majid, who works at a medical insurance firm.
