Donald Trump nominates new FBI Director

U.S. President Donald Trump has nominated Christopher A. Wray as the next Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director after he sacked James Comey from the post.

“I will be nominating Christopher A. Wray, a man of impeccable credentials, to be the new Director of the FBI. Details to follow,” tweeted Trump.

Wray would replace acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe, who took over the position after Comey was fired.

Wray served under former president George W Bush as an assistant attorney general from 2003-2005.

He was also a lawyer representing New Jersey Governor – and Trump ally – Chris Christie during the “Bridgegate” scandal.

President Trump last month fired Comey abruptly, terminating the top official leading a criminal investigation into whether his advisors colluded with the Russian government to steer the outcome of the 2016 presidential election.
