Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) Chairman Pahlaj Nihalani, has struck again with a new bizarre rule for Indian films. Mr Nihalani now has a problem with the projection of smoking and drinking in UA films.
The CBFC Chief believes that actors should lead by example and a mere disclaimer at a remote corner is not enough. He was quoted as saying, “Merely putting a ticker warning at some remote corner of the screen whenever there is smoking or drinking shown, is not enough anymore.
We feel the superstars who are followed by millions and who set an example in societal behaviour must not be shown drinking or smoking on screen unless the provocation for doing so is really strong.”
Adding to this Nihalani has said, “A film where alcohol is essential would have to go with an A certificate.” So we guess a Devdas or a Sharabi sequel has to wait for a new CBFC Chief.
Mr Nihalani will host a meeting with the rest of the CBFC members in Thiruvananthapuram on July 28.
