Two army cadets die training in Dehradun

Two army cadets died during training in prestigious Indian Military Academy, Dehradun.

According to a statement issued by the Army headquarters from the national capital, seven cadets fell unwell during training due to dehydration. And out of seven, two cadets succumbed during treatment in hospital.

The Army claims that incident happened during Exercise Pehla Kadam, a training exercise where participants were running 10 kilometers on Friday, a training session for first term cadets of the academy was being conducted in the general area of Badshahi Bagh, Saharanpur district.

“A total of seven cadets fell unwell due to dehydration and all of them were administered first aid at the exercise location,” the Army said in a statement.

Cadets evacuated in specialized ambulances with paramedic support to Military Hospital, Dehradun.

But, two cadets identified as Dipak Sharma (22) and Nabin Kumar Chhetri (23) later on succumbed.

Sharma, who died on Friday, hailed from Bathinda in Punjab. Chhetri succumbed at a hospital on Sunday. He was from Darjeeling in West Bengal. Chhetri, along with other cadets, was shifted to the military hospital in Dehradun. “The other gentleman cadets have been treated at the military hospital and they are stable,” the Army said.

It said, “Wreaths were laid for both the departed cadets in separate ceremonies which were attended by all officers, junior commissioned officers and gentlemen cadets of the IMA.
