Good news for aspiring astronauts can now access the Earth’s neighbor via their internet.
To explore the unknown terrains of Mars all one needs to have is access to a browser. Through ‘Access Mars’ one can skip the rigorous training and undertake a mission on Mars within the comforts of their home.
‘Access Mars’ is a collaborated project between NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and Google. NASA’s Curiosity Rover has send over 2,00,000 images to its home base, with which the engineers have created a virtual world that is accessible through the browser, phone or a virtual device.
“We’ve been able to leverage VR and AR technologies to take our scientists to Mars every single day. With Access Mars, everyone in the world can ride along,” explained Victor Luo, project manager at the JPL.
“All along the way, JPL scientist Katie Stack Morgan will be your guide, explaining key points about the rover, the mission, and some of the early findings.” Ryan Burke Creative Producer of Google added.
Access Mars is not software that needs to be downloaded. It lets anyone with an internet connection take a guided tour of what the scientists’ experience. Google said that JPL will continuously update the data so that users see where Curiosity has just been in the past few days or weeks.
Along with the NASA scientists, one can explore the Red Planet with this technology.
