Big car owners evade road tax by registering their cars in Puducherry for low tax rates. This has led to intensified checks for vehicles with Puducherry registration, revealing popular names like Fahadh Fassil.
Earlier this week, reports had alleged that several expensive cars used in Kerala had much cheaper Puducherry registration, thereby evading tax of lakhs of rupees that is due to the state.
10 such vehicle owners have been sent notices, after a search was carried out in the residential areas of Thrippunithura. Some of the cars worth add up to 3 crore. Fahadh Fassil among the other out of station owners have been asked to produce the necessary documents.
If the owners do not respond within 10 days, officials have instructions to take stern actions. It has been reported that there are rackets in Kerala that assist owners in evading tax by getting their cars registered in Puducherry. Inspections are to be continued in the following days.
