An earthquake felt in UAE, has raised the death toll in Iran. The death toll has risen to 61 and more than 300 were injured, according to the Iranian officials.
The tremor in the Iraq-Iran border region was of magnitude 7.3 and struck 103km southeast of the city of Sulaymaniyah, the US Geological Survey said. It was felt in the UAE, according to social media users.
The earthquake struck along the border with Iran.
It has been reported that the earthquake was felt in several Iranian provinces bordering Iraq, damaging eight villages. Electricity has been cut in some villages and rescue teams have been dispatched to those areas.
The tremors began at about 9.30pm local time in Iraq.
