In a historic move, UAE Health Ministry plans to issue new health legislation to put an end to the dangerous practice of dispensing antibiotics without a medical prescription.
According to Assistant Undersecretary for Public Policy and Licensing at the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) Dr. Amin Hussein Al Amiri, after the report of World Health Organization’s (WHO) says that bacteria will mutate to a better level, in which no antibiotics can harm the bacteria.
The global reports show that between 50 and 80 percent of germs have developed strong resistance to antibiotics, which leads to the deterioration of the immune system. Reports indicate the death of 700,000 people annually worldwide for this reason.
MOHAP will also raise awareness among doctors on the giving the prescriptions, particularly the need to be strict in the prescription of antibiotics so that such medicines are dispensed only when medically required and used at an accurate dose.
The indiscriminate use of antibiotics leads to epidemics unless there are intervention and radical solutions, which has prompted the WHO to allocate the period from November 16 to 22 every year as World Awareness Week on Antibiotics.
