DYFI activists destroyed resort owned by BJP MP Rajeev Chandrasekharan

A resort owned by BJP MP and Asianet channel Chairman Rajeev Chandrashekharan smashed by a group of DYFI activist, during an ongoing protest against the resort in Kumarakom. The law and order officials remain intact while the attackers destroyed the resort.

A group of DYFI party member alleged that MP Rajeev’s resort encroached Vembanadu lake for constructing some part of the resort. Early morning today, the protestors become violent and smashed the Asianet Channel Chairman Rajeev Chandrashekaran’s resort in Kumarakom. Recently, the channel made an impact report on the former Revenue minister Thomas Chandy’s controversial land encroachment of Lake Palace resort and which in turn leads to his resignation two weeks ago. The attack is claimed as a purposeful attack against the Asianet Chairman for broadcasting the report against Chandy’s resort.

The five-star resort named `Niramaya Retreat’ is on the final makeover for the inauguration. The attackers destroyed the resorts in the presence of huge police force. The police remain inactive and don’t make any action to control the violence led by the DYFI party workers.

The DYFI alleged that some portion of the Vembanad lake is encroached by the MP for constructing the resort. The portion of Vembanad lake acquired by the resort is listed among highly sensitive environmental region by the Ramsar Site.
