A day after the honorable Supreme Court heard Hadiya and freed her from the custody of her parents, Shafin Jahan, who is embroiled in a religious conversion row after he married Hadiya, said he would meet his wife as the Supreme Court had not barred him from doing so.
While talking with a media he said that I don’t need to approach the court seeking any clarification. The SC has not made any adverse remarks against me, he said. Jahan also rejected the allegations that he was a terrorist and pointed out that the court had not made any adverse remarks against him. However, his advocate said legal angles would be taken into consideration before Jahan meets Hadiya.
The Supreme Court had Monday freed Hadiya, 25, from the custody of her parents and sent her to the college at Salem in Tamil Nadu to pursue her studies, even as she pleaded she should be allowed to go with her husband. However, the court did not specify if Jahan could meet Hadiya.
Hadiya was in the custody of her parents for almost six months after the Kerala High Court on May 29 annulled her marriage with Jahan. Hadiya, a Hindu by birth, had converted to Islam several months before her marriage. Hadiya’s father had alleged that Jahan had terrorist links and Hadiya was forcefully converted.
Hadiya has already been taken to her college in Salem. The SC had asked the Tamil Nadu police to give her security cover. Kerala government had made all arrangements to shift Hadiya from New Delhi to her hostel in Salem following the SC’s instructions.
