Ockhi cyclone: Government is guilty of the death of poor fishermen said Kummanam Rajashekaran

BJP state president of Kerala Kummanam Rajasekharan asserted that the government is failed to alert people and not protected people from the inbound strike of natural calamity Ockhi hit Kerala shores.

He alleged that the government is responsible for the criminal offense. The unfortunate murder case should be initiated against those who have failed to take steps even if the warning is available earlier. Kummanam also demanded prosecution proceedings against members of the Disaster Management Authority.

Ministers are not ready to visit the disaster-hit areas. They have a fear that people will be offended. The Fourteenth Finance Commission allocated Rs 1021 crore to the State for disaster management. But the authority does not spend money efficiently. The Center spent Rs. 721 lakh in the amount of Rs. 1021 crores.

Kummanam said that the government has done efficient interventions when the tragedy took place. The state government should take steps to deal with the tragedy. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has provided all the support from the Center. There were ten ships and three aircraft allotted for Kerala to do the searching. The Defense Minister himself has come to Kerala and the rescue operations are being evaluated. The fishermen from Kerala who fled to the coast of Maharashtra and Goa came under the support of the Chief Ministers of those states.
