Ahead of the second phase of Gujarat Assembly elections, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Monday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking him to talk about the poll-bound state rather than talking about Japan, Pakistan, Afghanistan. Rahul also called Bharatiya Janata Party‘s Vikas Rally a flopped one.
While addressing a rally in Banaskantha, Rahul said, “Jaise picture flop hoti hai, waise hi BJP ki vikas yatra flop ho gayi. Gujarat ka chunav ho raha hai aur Modi ji kabhi Japan, Pakistan, Afghanistan ki baat karte hain. Modi ji, Gujarat ka chunaav hai, thodi Gujarat ki baat karlo. (Like a flop movie, BJP’s ‘Vikas Rally’ has also flopped. The elections are happening in Gujarat and Modi ji is talking about Japan, Pakistan, Afghanistan. Modi ji, elections are happening in Gujarat, talk about the state).”
The remarks came after Modi alleged that the neighbouring country was interfering in Gujarat polls and sought an explanation from the Congress over its top partymen who are said to have recently met leaders from the neighbouring country. Addressing a rally in the poll-bound state, Modi also raised questions over the alleged appeal by the former director general of the Pakistan Army, Sardar Arshad Rafiq, that senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel be made the chief minister of Gujarat.
“(On one side) Pakistan Army’s former DG is interfering in Gujarat’s election, on the other side, Pakistan’s people are holding a meeting at Mani Shankar Aiyar’s house,” Modi had said.
Earlier, Pakistan hit back at Modi and said the country should not be dragged into India’s electoral debate. “India should stop dragging Pakistan into its electoral debate and win victories on own strength rather than fabricated conspiracies, which are utterly baseless and irresponsible,” Dr. Mohammad Faisal, Spokesperson Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pakistan, tweeted.
The first phase of Gujarat polls was held on December 9 which witnessed 68 percent voter turnout. The second phase of Gujarat polling is on December 14. The results will be declared on December 18.
