Dh 500 fine for this offence in Sharjah

A Dh500 fine will be slapped on those found sticking advertisement bills on parking meters and parking inspectors of Sharjah Municipality have been asked to keep a watch on such violations.

Ali Ahmed Abugazin, director of public parking department at Sharjah Municipality, said that it has been noticed that parking meters in the city are covered with stickers and ad bills which damage as well as sully the devices. He said that many people have been found drawing and writing words in different languages on these meters.

The municipality has recently launched an awareness campaign through its social media platforms to urge the people to stop such practices that negatively impact the aesthetic image of the city.

Abugazin pointed out that the inspectors of the municipality are working round-the-clock to monitor violations. The violators would be fined and legal action taken against them.

He added the public parking facilities should not to be sabotaged or tampered with in any way, whether by placing random stickers or writing and drawing on them, because such practices spoil the appearance of the city. The municipality has to incur additional expenses for maintenance and removal of ad bills and stickers.

He urged the public to cooperate with the municipality by immediately calling 993 to report such violations. The parking inspectors will swing into action and arrest the violators, he said.

An official at the city cleanliness department of the Sharjah Municipality said that despite its campaign to curb the practice of sticking ad bills on public facilities, many individuals and companies are found doing so: on parking meters, walls, phone booths, bus shelters, roundabouts, groceries and supermarkets.

“The posters and notices spoil the look of many buildings in the emirate and their owners have to bear the cost to get them repainted. Removing them is a big headache for the municipality officials and workers,” he pointed out.

“The emirate of Sharjah prides itself for its architectural heritage and wants the buildings to enhance its beauty,” he said. The municipality is trying to promote a positive image of the emirate and working towards spreading awareness among residents about ways to keep it clean and tidy, he added.
