Reports of women seen crying exactly a year later at the very same spot did the rounds today morning, sparking speculation that the city had seen another incident of molestation on New Year’s Eve.
However, there was no confirmation whether such an episode had taken place. As of the last updating this report, there was no complaint or First Information Report alleging that a girl had been molested in Bengaluru as the city brought in the New Year.
Sources within the city’s police department also said that they had examined CCTV footage from Brigade Road and MG Road and had not found anything incriminating. The days after were equally controversial with police officials saying they had not found any evidence of the reported molestation.
Bengaluru Police was on high alert last night as the city prepared to bid 2017 adieu. As many as 15,000 policemen and women were out on the streets as the cops looked to avoid a repeat of last year where a large number of women were molested and harassed around the city’s upscale MG Road and Brigade Road on New Year’s Eve last year.
No cases of molestation were reported in Bengaluru during New Year’s Eve celebrations, city police commissioner T Suneel Kumar said on Monday, 1 January 2018. He added that 1,300 people were booked for violating traffic rules.
His announcement came after a man came forward alleging that his wife and other women were molested on Brigade Road, infamous for the alleged mass-molestation during New Year’s Eve celebrations last year.
The man claimed that his wife was molested at the Brigade Road circle on Sunday night. He added that he would soon lodge a formal complaint.
The man said as soon as the countdown for the new year began, some people began to physically push themselves on women. They were trying to pull down the women’s pants and put their hands inside their clothes.
