An icy ball weighing more than 12kg that fell on an Indian village is believed to be frozen human waste leaked from an airplane.
The 12.7kg chunk of ice landed on Fazilpur Badli village, Gurgaon outside of New Delhi in the country’s north with a “big thud”, shocked residents said.
Villagers are believed to have kept pieces of the ball, believing it was something very special. Gurgaon official Vivek Kalia told that the villagers thought it was an “extra-terrestrial” object.
However, after the fallen article was sent for testing it was discovered it was more likely to be frozen excrement from an airplane.
“It was a very heavy icy ball which dropped from the skies early on Saturday morning. There was big thud and people of the village came running out of their homes to find out what had happened,” he said.

“Some villagers thought it was an extra-terrestrial object. Others thought it was some celestial rock and I’ve heard that they took samples home,” Kalia said.
According to reports, people snuck pieces of the fallen object into their clothes and store them at home.
The Indian Meteorological Department tested a sample and determined it was“definitely not a meteorological phenomenon”. Aeroplane toilets store human waste in special tanks but they have been known to leak.
In 2016, a 60-year old woman was injured after a football-sized chunk of ice fell on her from the sky, believed to have come from a leaking plane toilet.
The Times of India reported that Rajrani Gaud was walking through the Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh when the ball of frozen urine and excrement hit a rooftop and then struck her.
“I was only 25 feet (7.6 meters) away from the spot where the monster came crashing down,” witness Deepak Jain told.
Children and villagers witnessed the fall and then heard screams. We ran towards Rajrani’s house and referred her to hospital.”
