Students now gain free access to international courses

The term curriculum refers to the lessons and academic content taught in a school or in a specific course or program.

Students will get an opportunity to study international curriculum for free in Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) schools. Around 25 BMC schools aim to adopt Cambridge board with international curriculum by next academic year.

The civic education department has received permission from the state education ministry to start international schools. These schools will be identified in respective wards or areas as the plan is to create one international BMC school in every municipal ward. As these schools will continue to function as BMC schools they will not have any fees.

An online link has been provided to BMC schools through which principals can apply if they are interested and want their school to go international.

Prakash Charate, BMC Education officer said, “We have provided a link to principals of various BMC schools. The principals can apply and mention if they want to opt for an international board. Then we will check various criteria like the number of students in that school, the status of the school, quality of teachers and education to analyze if that particular school is eligible for an international curriculum.”

These schools will have an international curriculum of the Cambridge board but will not have foreign teachers. “We will not hire foreign teachers instead we will impart detailed training to our in-house teachers. Foreign education experts who are well versed with the Cambridge board will train and educate our teachers about the syllabus,” Charate added.

This move has come as a large number of state schools are planning to adopt the international curriculum. A principal of a BMC school, said, “We aim to stay in tune with the changing trends. Also, the international curriculum may open new doors of opportunities to our students.” Parents claimed this plan will help the progress of their children.
