Happy news for all drunkards. People will be able to buy liquor from any vend in UP without paying cash. Under the new excise policy rolled out by the state government, it has been made mandatory for all liquor vendors to install point of sale (PoS) machines in their shops and accept payment via credit and debit cards.
RTGS, NEFT and other e-payment options will also be made available to the customers to directly send money from their bank accounts in case of bulk transactions. According to officials, the cashless system will help keep a tab on cases of liquor being sold by retailers at more than maximum retail price.

Vijay Kumar Mishra Deputy Commissioner (Excise) said, “Directives of the state government for implementation of excise policy for 2018-19 have been received. From April 1, customers in the state will be able to purchase any type of legally sold liquor through credit and debit cards. Other e-payment options will also be made available. We will ensure that all retailers provide cashless payment facilities. Digital transactions will leave no scope for overpricing of liquor by retailers.”
The new excise policy is aimed to boost the sale of liquor. The department had suffered a loss of Rs 2000 crore after the Supreme Court’s decision to remove liquor shops situated close to national and state highways.
Earlier the state government had sent a delegation to states like Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha to study excise policy of these states and identify the sale and consumption pattern of liquor.
