This is what UAE says about Trump’s decision to withdraw from Iran’s deal

Yesterday, Donald Trump had pulled the US out of the Iranian nuclear deal, despite warnings from allies.

While many have condemned Trump’s move, including former President Barack Obama, the UAE and Saudi Arabia have applauded Trump’s decision.

The United Arab Emirates has announced its support to the decision announced by US President Donald Trump to withdraw from the nuclear agreement with Iran for various reasons that he mentioned in the speech on Tuesday, including that the agreement does not guarantee Iran would refrain from pursuing nuclear weapons in the future. The UAE welcomed Trump’s strategy in that regard.

In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, called on the international community and the other states that are party to the agreement, to support Trump’s stand for making the Middle East a zone free of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction, in order to maintain global security and stability.

Saudi Arabia, the regional rival of Iran and longtime US ally, too said it “supports and welcomes” US President Donald Trump’s decision on Tuesday to withdraw from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.

“The kingdom supports and welcomes the steps announced by the US president towards withdrawing from the nuclear deal… and reinstating economic sanctions against Iran,” the foreign ministry said late Tuesday, joining Israel as one of the few countries to back Trump’s move.

Riyadh’s allies in the Gulf, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, also issued statements via their foreign ministries in support of Trump’s decision, which has thrown a wrench between the United States, Europe and their allies in the region.

Saudi Arabia also welcomes the re-imposing sanctions on Iran that were suspended after the enforcement of the deal.

It said the Kingdom had supported the deal between Iran and other six powers at the beginning to limit the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East and the world, but Iran exploited the economic gains of the deal to destabilize the region.

Citing that the nuclear agreement signed under former President Barack Obama’s rule as ‘defective’ and unable to rein in Iranian behaviour or halt the Islamic Republic’s quest to develop a nuclear program.

In the White House’s Diplomatic Reception Room Trump said, “I’m announcing today that the United States will withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal,” he said while adding that his administration “will be instituting the highest level of economic sanction.”

Trump said the 2015 agreement, which included Germany, France, and Britain, was a “horrible one-sided deal that should never ever have been made.”

Trump emphasized that sanctions would also apply to other nations that did business with Iran, meaning that the United States could very well apply sanctions on its closest European allies. “America will not be held hostage to nuclear blackmail,” Trump said.

Responding to the move, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has lobbied against the deal, said he offered his full support for Trump’s “bold move.”

Meanwhile, the Iranian president Hassan Rouhani has stated that this was a “psychological warfare” and that Tehran will stay in the deal with other five signatories.
