An asteroid, known as 2010 WC9, came closer to earth than any other asteroid in the last 300 years. It was of the size of a city block and was only about 126000 miles away from earth. The flyby happened around 6 05 pm and it was moving at a speed of 29000 Miles per hour when it went past earth.

The asteroid has a diameter of 60 to 134 metres and Dr Erin Ryan, an asteroid expert at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Centre in Greenbelt, Maryland said it was “as big across as a city block”. It was first spotted on Nov 30, 2010 and was being tracked for the last 10 days .
The asteroid though was not big enough to be seem from earth with naked eye. A lot of enthusiasts tuned in with their telescopes while Northolt Branch Observatories, an astronomy group in London, live streamed the telescopic views.
