Theresa May, British PM in November 2017 said,”the UK would consider further improvements to its visa offer if, at the same time, we can step up the speed and volume of returns of Indians with no right to remain in the UK”.PM Modi declined to sign the crucial MoU due to Theresa May’s non-compliance towards her offer.
Diplomatic officials confirmed that India had not seen any progress on May’s promise on progress in VISA policies for Indians. The Indian demand was that the VISA system in Britan should be improved in order to make migration in short-term visas easier which would help students and those who travel to the UK for employment.
The timeline proposed in the agreement for the identification of illegal Indians by Indian authorities was within 70days and to confirm identities of Indians with IDs within 15days.
