Once airborne, there has to be a strong reason for an airplane to land. So if Boeing 737 Transavia Flight had to land, because of the unbearable body odour of a person, all I can do is to wonder how excruciating the smell was. The flight was headed from Schipol Airport in Netherlands to Gran Canaria in Spain, but had to be diverted to Faro in Portugal after the crew tried to quarantine the man in the toilet.
The smell , according to the passengers, was so bad that people started to faint and vomit after the flight took off. One of the passenger reported it was as though the “man hadn’t got a proper wash in weeks”.He added that several passengers got sick and had to puke.
Belgian passenger Piet van Haut described the mile-high stink as “unbearable.”

Soon the staff on board tried to isolate him to the bathroom, as the flight took a detour to Portugal. Once landed, they removed the man from the passengers. He was escorted off the plane by medical staff and placed on an airport bus. We don’t know what happened later or if he had a medical condition.
A spokesperson of the Transavia Airline said “The aeroplane diverted because of medical reasons, but it is indeed right that he smelled quite a bit”.
