9-year-old girl allegedly raped by neighbours

A nine-year-old girl was allegedly lured and raped by a youngster at Banjara Hills. The incident, which occurred a week ago, came to light when the youngster’s brother also attempted to rape her on Sunday. However, the girl managed to escape and informed her mother.

The suspects were identified as Srikanth (20) and his brother Yellesh (18), both school dropouts residing in the same neighbourhood.

According to the Banjara Hills police, the girl, a Class 5 student, was known to the suspects. A week ago, while she was near her home, Srikanth allegedly lured her with chocolates to his house and raped her.

“His family members had gone to work while he was at home. He lured her with eatables and took her home, where he sexually exploited her. The girl, out of fear, did not reveal it to anyone,” police said.

Police suspect that after learning that Srikanth had raped her, Yellesh too tried to sexually exploit her, possibly with the former’s help. Following the similar fashion, on Sunday, Yellesh lured the child with eatables and took her home.

“He tried to overpower her and attempted to rape her again. The girl however managed to escape and went back to her house, where she told her mother, who then approached the police,” officials said.

Based on a complaint, the Banjara Hills police have booked a case of rape and have initiated a probe. While sources said the suspects were taken into custody, police are yet to confirm this.
