700 varieties of mangoes; Aam Mahotsav in Lucknow from June 23

From June 23 to 24, a mango festival will be held at the Indira Gandhi Pratishtaan in Lucknow to make people aware of the different varieties of this fruit.

Director of Uttar Pradesh Horticulture and Food Processing Department Raghvendra Pratap Singh said in a statement that nearly 700 varieties of mangoes from different places would be exhibited in the Aam Mahotsav-2018.

He said that UP was the largest producer of mangoes in the country and that the state produced 40-45 lakh metric tonnes of mangoes, which was 23% of India’s 184 lakh metric tonne production.

Mango Producers will be given an introduction to the latest techniques in the field which will further help them in augmenting the quality of production. Ragvendra Pratap Singh said that the festival would also act as a platform to enhance knowledge about different varieties of mangoes and that it would also contribute to horti-tourism.

As per an official information, seminars will be held on new techniques and redressal of problems of mango growers and also a buyer-seller meet will be held.”It will also boost in the marketing of mangoes and processed mango food products”, said the official.
