Crews are still repairing a hole that opened up in Florida, on most days that news is not very pleasant. But then this hole has put a smile on the face some of the local historian and public as It led to an unexpected discovery. A historic brick road and terracotta drainage structure have been found under the road.

The Oviedo Hstorical Society said crews repairing the hole that opened Sunday in State Road 434 in Seminole County started digging at the site and discovered the previously unknown road and structure. They said that the photos from 1800 of the same location shows a dirt road. Delta Horner, the society’s Vice President felt that the brick road were probably used by farmers in the 1920s.

The Historical Society is collecting bricks and other artifacts from the road and structure, while officials said they hope to have repair work completed by Saturday.
