No Dates available; AIIMS puts the Sugery of a 4 Month old Baby on hold till 2023

A four month old baby with a hole in the heart has been put on hold at All India Institute of Medical Science(AIIMS) in Delhi to get a surgery. The infant’s parents were asked to come back after five years in 2023. AIIMS had already complained that there is a huge waiting line for heart surgeries at hospital.

The other AIIMS hospitals in the country, opened to take the work load off AIIMS in delhi , has not been found effective. They are in Patna, Bhopal, Raipur, Jodhpur, Rishikesh and Bhubaneswar.

The infant’s father Ram Kishore of Bageshwar district in Uttarakhand said that he is a poor man and doesn’t have the money to afford a cardiac surgery in a private hospital. He is forced to borrow money from someone and then turn to a private hospital for help.

Health Minister J.P Nadda had mentioned the plight of AIIMS hospitals in the country last year. He said that even the existing hospitals are not functioning to the full capacity. 13 more such hospitals are all set to sprout across the nation and two of them will be in Jammu and Kashmir.

A senior doctor at AIIMS Rishikesh said “The government had hoped that those needing super specialist healthcare would benefit from these centres but that has not happened. There are two reasons: one, the new AIIMS don’t have even half the 305 faculty strength and the pace of providing proper infrastructure, support staff and required equipment has been too slow.”
