Railway Board Chief says Bullet Train “Extremely Essential” for country

Railway Board Chairman Ashwani Lohani expressing his view about unleashing a ‘technology-driven transportation’ today said that the bullet train was “extremely essential” for India.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor is being implemented under the National High-Speed Rail Corporation, a special purpose vehicle of the railways and Maharashtra, Gujarat state governments, with the technical and financial assistance from Japan.

The Project has been tried to get impaired by people who have been unwilling to give lands and some others who have questioned the need of the corridor.

The Central Railway Board is however optimistic at their wish to commission a medium of rapid transport which can run at par with the air travel.Mr.Lohani said that the Railways hoped to finish Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed corridor by the deadline of December 2022.

Lohani reviewed various suburban projects in Mumbai and had deliberations with general managers of Western and Central Railways as well as officials of Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation.

The projects discussed were capacity enhancement works under Mumbai Urban Transport Project, particularly the 5th and 6th lines between Thane and Diva as well as Kurla and Parel on Central Railway.

Lohani expressed the Railway Ministry’s willingness to complete big-ticket projects like the CSMT-Panvel suburban corridor. He assured that CSMT, currently HQ of Central Railways, would be restored with its glory and would be preserved by them.

On the question about the closure much popular 1 rupee clinic in 6 railway stations, D K Sharma, Central Railways General Manager said that it had been due to the failure of the private operator in running it. The clinics at Kurla, Ghatkopar, Wadala, Govandi, Vashi and Mulund stations were shut down on June 14.

Various Passenger friendly amenities like a self-ticketing zone, mobile charging station, and a day-night 1098 Childline Help were inaugurated by Railway Board Chairman Ashvani Lohani at CMST during his visit.
