There are very few questions google can’t answer, but then there are lot of questions that we dont expect google to answer, like predicting someones death. But that might soon change too as the tech giant is reportedly training machine that can predict when a patient will die.
Google has created a tool that could forecast a host of patient outcomes, including how long the patient may stay in hospitals, their odds of readmission and the chances of how soon they will die.

An unidentified lady had recently come to a hospital with late-stage breast cancer with fluids already in to her lungs. The hospital gave her a radiology scan and predicted a 9.3 percentage chance that she would die during her stay. Googles new algorithm then read the data about woman – about 175639 data points and gave a death risk of 19.9 percent. She passed away in a few days. This incident was published by Google in May in research highlighting health care potential of neural networks – an AI that is good at using data to automatically learn and improve.
The medical experts were impressed by Google’s ability to quickly read through data like notes scribbled in PDF or scribbled on old charts. The neural net imbibed and analysed all the data and quickly gave it’s predictions. It did all this faster and more accurate than current techniques. It can even tell you exactly which record led to its conclusions.
Google is planning to move this system in to clinics. There is a lot of excitement about this inside the company. Vik Bajaj, a former executive at Verily, an Alphabet health-care arm, and managing director of investment firm Foresite Capita said “They understand what problems are worth solving,” he said. “They’ve now done enough small experiments to know exactly what the fruitful directions are.”
