In a bizarre incident reported from Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur district, a 30-year-old woman was shot dead by her husband for not cooking egg curry. The accused has been arrested and sent to judicial custody.
The victim, identified as Mangesh Shukla, had refused to cook egg curry as it was Thursday. A section of the Hindu community refrains from eating non-vegetarian food on this day of the week.
Since Navneet, the husband was under the influence of alcohol, he was enraged by his wife’s refusal and got into an argument.
After a heated verbal duel, Navneet went out of the house only to return with his father’s licensed revolver. He fired on Mangesh from the back and fled from the spot. By the time locals rushed her to the nearest hospital, she had succumbed to the injuries.

Navneet was apprehended by the police on Friday. During the course of interrogation, he confessed to his crime and expressed remorse. The complaint against him was filed by the deceased’s elder brother Anand Shukla. Based upon the investigation so far, he has been charge sheeted under IPC section 302 (murder).
Navneet, 33, is a farmer by profession. He was married to Mangesh 12 years ago. The couple resided at his parent’s home in Devdas village of Shahjahanpur, along with their three children. At the time of the murder, the parents had gone to visit the doctor, whereas, the children were at the school.
A team of senior police officials has seized the licensed weapon used for the murder. The couple’s children, for now, have been allowed to live with Navneet’s parents.
