SDPI Calls For Harthal in Kerala as its Leaders are arrested in Abhimanyu Murder Case

It doesn’t matter what political bias you hold, if you are a human being you would definitely want the culprits of Abhimanyu’s murder case to be brought under the law. The victim, Abhimanyu was an SFI leader and thus for once, this murder landed the left front in a situation where it had to harden the soft tone it had always taken against the Islamic terror outfits. The public outcry and the media attention it had got might have also forced the government to take a Stern action and after days of inaction, it today registered the arrest of six SDPI leaders.

It is learnt that they were taken into preventive custody and for questioning. The Ernakulam Central police made the arrest of six SDPI leaders when they came out after holding a press conference at Ernakulam Press Club. Later they were shifted to the police station.

The SDPI conducted the press conference to provide an explanation on the Abhimanyu murder case. SDPI state president Abdul Majeed Faisi, Vice President MK Manoj Kumar, General Secretary Roy Arakkal and district president VK Shoukath Ali were taken into custody, but guess how SDPI has responded.

SDPI has called for a statewide Harthal tomorrow, protesting against the arrest. At this point, It is hard not to think about another recent incident, where the issue of Akhila-Hadiya was politically used by the Islamic terror outfits, and later Kerala witnessed their aggressive response to a court verdict that did not reflect their aspirations.

SDPI and PDP have so long played the victim card and perhaps have moved to a phase where they can play an aggressive card. Their continuous attack at the democratic system and its machinery are indicative of this. It is possible that they have identified that it is time to employ more forceful methods to announce to the state that they are now a force to reckon with.

So how is Kerala going to respond to tomorrow’s Harthal? Surely it will be met with the way all the other harthals were met. Malayalis love to stay indoors and people would gladly take the holiday without realising the repercussions that it is making a dangerous organisation feel more confident about themselves.
