Over 17 persons have been injured, while several are feared trapped as an under-construction building in Chennai’s Kandanchavadi area collapsed on the evening of Saturday, 21 July.
Eight ambulances and three fire tenders are currently at the spot to facilitate rescue operations. So far, around 10 workers have been successfully rescued. According to local news channel reports, district collector Ponaiyyan is also at the spot to take stock of the situation.

The collapse reportedly occurred after scaffold and iron girders at the construction site gave way.
According to reports, three of the injured workers have been admitted in a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Meanwhile, ten others were rushed to a government hospital in nearby Saidapet, while five others were admitted at Injambakkam’s Emergency and Trauma Care centre.
