Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday claimed he will make Pakistan better than arch-rival India if elected to power. Speaking at a rally in his stronghold Punjab province’s Sargodha, Sharif said he will change his name if he is not able to do it.
“They (Indians) will come to the Wahga border and call Pakistanis their masters,” the 65-year-old Sharid was quoted by the Express Tribune as saying. The former Chief Minister of Punjab also said he will take Pakistan at par with Turkey and Malaysia. “I will visit Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad to learn from them and Pakistan a great nation again” he added.
Attacking Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, Sharif said Pakistan cannot become great under his leadership. He accused Imran Khan of making false promises to the country. “U-turn signs on the roads should be replaced with pictures of Imran Khan,” he added.

However, PML-N President himself took a U-turn on his views on India as he admitted on July 12 that India had surpassed Pakistan in various fields. He said he is pained to see India at the G-20 summit where Prime Minister Narendra Modi goes to attend and Pakistan could only watch from the sidelines.
“Aaj Hindustan G20 mein jaata hai to mere dil ko teer lagte hain ki Modi (PM Modi) wahan jaake khada hota hai aur hum tamasha dekh rahe hain”, he said.
Sharif even gave an edge to India over Pakistan on the corruption front. “In India, actions have been taken against political leaders like their former PM Narasimha Rao and J.Jayalalithaa,” the PML-N president said, adding that in Pakistan, however, people responsible for scams worth billions of rupees were “fighting elections and giving sermons”.
He said Pakistan had lagged behind in Asia, and if it still didn’t learn its lesson then “God help us”. He said the country’s economy was also on the verge of decline.
