Two booth presidents of Trinamool Congress arrested in connection with the murder of a local Bharatiya Janata Party leader, Shaktipada Sardar, who was stabbed to death in Mandirbazar block in South 24 Parganas district on Friday. The two have been sent to eight-day police custody by a Diamond Harbour sub-divisional court on Saturday.
The two TMC leaders were produced before the court earlier today after they were arrested. The incident occurred on Friday night when Sardar was returning home. As per reports, unidentified miscreants allegedly stabbed Sardar and left him to bleed on road. Following this, locals rushed him to Diamond Harbour hospital, which referred him to a hospital in Kolkata. The victim died on his way to the hospital, police said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday blamed the local TMC leadership for the fatal attack on its members. However, TMC workers have denied involvement in the attack, with a few of the party leaders telling news agency ANI, “We have nothing to do with such attacks on BJP leaders.”
