If you are asked to name a fitness icon from India, most people would instantly name Virat Kohli. TheIndian cricket team captain has certainly raised the bar for fitness in the Indian team and is a model to emulate. But Kohli may not be the fittest person if you consider all the sports. Sardar Singh, the heart, and soul of Indian hockey has got his yo yo test timing well ahead of Kohli and could be considered fitter than him. But sadly hockey doesn’t get the media space that cricket enjoys and neither does it have the fan following that cricket has.

Sardar, who was dropped by former coach Sjoerd Marijne due to his lack of speed, has been tirelessly working on his fitness ahead of the Asian Games 2018. The result is that the former Indian captain has attained a new level of fitness and cleared the yo-yo test comfortably. As a part of his fitness regime, Sardar recorded a yo-yo test score of 21.4 beating his previous best of 21.3. In comparison, the passing mark for the mandatory yo-yo test clearance for entry into the Indian team is 16.1. Kohli’s best score in yoyo test is 19 .
Sardar has limited his indulgence in rich food and instead tries to intake as much nutritional stuff as he can. Even when he craves for a paratha, he would stuff broccoli in it instead of potatoes. “I looked at what Bolt did for speed, tried to follow what other top athletes do for strength. You just pick and learn,” he says. “If I craved for paranthas, I stuffed broccoli in it instead of potatoes. But I haven’t taken the liberty of eating such things a lot,” he was quoted as saying by Indian Express.
