While Kerala is still fighting the aftermath of the flood with great stoicism, a heartbreaking news has now come from the state which will break most people into tears.
Police said that a 19-year-old class 12 boy, Kailash, was left devastated having found his certificates destroyed by the flood and he committed suicide for the same reason. Hailing from Karanthur in Kozhikode district, he and his parents had moved to a relief camp three days ago.

Kailash had got admission for a course in the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) and had purchased new clothes and set apart some money for higher studies, they said. As the rains abated for a while, he returned home on Sunday to take a look at the house and was shocked to find his plus two certificates soaked in water and in tatters.
Later that day when his parents came to clean the waterlogged house, they found the boy hanging by the roof. His shattered father, a labourer, had pinned all his hopes on his son as all their belongings had been mostly destroyed in the rains.
Education Minister of Kerala had assured that the students who lost their certificates need not worry about it and that the government will make provisions to ensure that the students will have no trouble in getting their documents re-issued. One can only hope that the youngsters will have the fortitude to fight this adverse situation.
