The Russian-backed authorities’ plans to try Ukrainian prisoners of war in the southern port of Mariupol were denounced on Wednesday by the U.S. State Department, which claimed that Russia would be attempting to shift blame for its neighbor’s invasion.
Ned Price, a department spokesman, issued a statement in which he said, ‘We strongly condemn the planned show trials as being illegal and a mockery of justice.’
