Try Easy Mango Rice Recipe

Mango rice is a delightful South Indian dish that combines the tangy flavor of raw mangoes with seasoned rice. Here’s a simple recipe:

Ingredients:
– 1 cup of rice
– 1 raw green mango, peeled and grated
– 2 tablespoons of oil
– 1/2 teaspoon of mustard seeds
– 1/2 teaspoon of urad dal (split black gram)
– 1/2 teaspoon of chana dal (split chickpeas)
– 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder
– 1/2 teaspoon of asafoetida (hing)
– 2-3 dried red chilies, broken into pieces
– 8-10 curry leaves
– 1/4 cup of roasted peanuts
– Salt to taste

Instructions:

1. Cook the rice: Cook the rice with the appropriate amount of water until it’s fluffy and each grain is separate. Allow it to cool.

2. Grate the mango: Peel the raw green mango and grate it. Ensure you discard the seed.

3. Season the rice: In a pan, heat the oil over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Then add urad dal, chana dal, dried red chilies, and curry leaves. Sauté until the dals turn golden.

4. Add mango and spices: Add the grated mango and cook for a few minutes until it softens. Add turmeric powder, asafoetida, and salt. Mix well and cook for a couple of minutes.

5. Mix with rice: Now, add the cooked and cooled rice to the pan. Mix everything together gently so that the mango mixture coats the rice evenly.

6. Add peanuts: Finally, add roasted peanuts and give it a good mix.

7. Serve: Your mango rice is ready to be served. Enjoy it as is or with some yogurt or pickle on the side.
