“Vayalkara Vengad” emerged as the victors in the exciting second edition of the Champions Boat League (CBL) boat races, which unfolded along the scenic Chaliyar river in Feroke. Their skillful performance secured them the top position, with AKG Podothuruthy coming in second place, while New Brothers Mayyicha claimed the third spot. The State Tourism Department orchestrated this CBL, modeled after the IPL.
Nine remarkable 60-feet-long Churulan boats, each brimming with 30 skilled crew members hailing from Kannur and Kasargod districts, vied for glory in the heart-pounding race. The racecourse stretched between the old and new bridges, providing an exhilarating spectacle for the spectators. In addition to the boat races, attendees were treated to a captivating boat demonstration by the ‘Cheruvannur Paura Samithy’ from Kozhikode district. The event was further enriched by aquatic displays and art performances, including Thiruvathira and Chendamelam.
During the event’s inauguration, Tourism Minister Mohammed Riyas revealed exciting plans for the future. He announced that Chaliyar would become the permanent venue for CBL boat races, with the old bridge at Feroke to be adorned with dazzling lights and enhanced visitor facilities. The event was graced by the presence of actor Asif Ali as the chief guest, while Feroke Municipality Chairman N C Abdul Razak presided over the function. This remarkable day celebrated the rich tradition of boat racing and the scenic beauty of the Chaliyar river.
